We celebrated the New Year with a lovely dinner on the first. This was the best roast dinner yet that I've cooked. I'm sorry that there are no close-ups only we were too busy eating!
The new year started with heavy rain but luckily I got these shots from my Folks' garden a few days earlier. We start with a frangipani (thanks Diane - now I know how to spell it) in flower. The flower looks waxy but is actually quite delicate.
Bromeliads growing at the front of their home. The colours are glorious and these
require very little maintenance.
require very little maintenance.
Gladioli is bloom. Their true colour is bolder than shown in the photo.
Massive amounts of fresh mint.
And a very determined carpet rose that has defied all attempts to remove it!
I'm back home in Wellington where the weather could be better. Yesterday it was only 13C (55F) with gale force wind and horizontal rain - so much for Summer!
We hunkered down and spent the day cosily inside. So you know where Zebby Cat was .......

Glad you are home again and safe. I am sure that Zebby cat was more than happy to see you.
Ah frangipani, one plant that I do miss from S.Africa, thanks for the memory. Keep well hugs to you both Diane x
Hello there Michelle
What meat did you roast and what did you serve as the trimmings?Yes I'm sure your old fella was glad to see you. I think he is trying to tell you that nothing is sweeter than to sleep in your own bed
Take care
Cathy
Gorgeous flowers and I bet your roast dinner was delicious, Mickle. Your weather sounds much like what we've been having in the UK, if a bit warmer, but as you say, for you it's supposed to be summer. Hope it improves soon.
Nice flowers. My gladis are too dry this year and we were away for a week so watering wasn't done. However, my cucumber is nearing the ceiling:)
Sprocket was very happy to see us too.

Lovely flowers, Mickle, and your folks look well too! xx
You have better luck with mint than I do. I've never been able to grow the stuff = and I love it. I guess you have to have lots of it what with lamb so accessible down there. Actually I had some Icelandic lamb the other day. It was quite good. We usually get NZ here.
All those flowers are lovely, Hope the storms haven't spoiled them.
Love the flowers Michelle, beautiful colours. Mr Zebby cat looks very comfy in his own bed.
I hope your Mother's arm is on the way to recovery and she can have the cast removed soon.
Happy New Year and i hope this year is much better for all across the ditch....no more quakes....please
I lost you for awhile. I am so envious of the wonderful tropical plants and flowers. Did I ever tell you that I have a cousin in Dunedin? Glad Zebby is doing well.
Your parents are looking well, and I'm glad to see Zebby at home and comfy after his visit to the cattery. Your flower pictures are quite pretty!
Nice to meet you Zebby Cat !

Hi Mickle, thanks for visiting us. We would love to get to know Zebby Cat more. We reckon he would love a game of chasey with us hehehe. Your mum and dad's garden looks beautiful. We try to help mum in the garden but she just doesn't appreciate it!!
Mum says the photo of your parents is lovely. We all send good wishes that your mum's arm is better soon. Take care all. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory (and Carol)
What lovely photos. We are in the dead of winter here and it is dark and gray. The color of those blossoms is a treat for winter weary eyes. This is my first visit to your blog, but I love what I've found here and I will be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

Nuts in May
The flowers are all so lovely, especially the frangipani. We had several frangipani trees when we lived in the islands in several different colors. Certain times of the year they get huge caterpillars that if not taken care of, can destroy the tree.I am NOT brave when it comes to touching big caterpillars and always begged off of the job and left it to my husband.
