Where was I ...........

Yes, 19 months later and I'm still here!

Both Zebby Cat and His human each had multiple health problems to deal with so Michelle/Mickle has been otherwise preoccupied for a while. Okay - quite a long while.

Zebby's kidney problems and hyperthyroidism  got steadily worse over the months. His appetite was still hardy (c'mon - Zeb refuse food?) however his weight went down and down and down.

Then pretty much overnight his hind legs could no longer support him.  My darling stubborn, sometimes grumpy, frequently smoochy, purry and loving

Zebby Cat was helped to The Bridge on Tuesday, 25 August 2013.

I give my enormous thanks to Pet Doctors in Kelburn, Wellington, especially nurse Kelsey and vets Rochelle and Brendan. Zeb's ashes are sitting here on the table and will be scattered under the citrus trees in my Folks' garden during the Christmas break.

In the meantime .............

My Crohn's disease had flared up again so my wonderful gastroenterologist, Ian Wilson, suggested  that I consider Humira. After second and third thoughts I worked through the various tests I needed to have to qualify for it.  And, as it was due, in August 2012 had a routine mammogram.

Long story short - a small area in my right breast looked different when compared with the previous mammogram. Turned out to be an invasive stage II ductal cell carcinoma that appeared to be 8mm across (even from an MRI scan) . My immediate reaction was "Bugger, this will stuff up going onto Humira!".

After lumpectomy surgery, to the suprise and shock of all - especially the medics, the tumour turned out to be 7cm wide. So second surgery - this time a simple mastectomy followed by 6 months of chemotherapy and 5 weeks of 5 days a week radiotherapy.

Hey - all things considered I'm doing okay.

I had to postpone  my radiotherapy treatment on the day Zebby had his final visit to his vets. The next day when I went in one of the radio therapists. Jenni, checked on how I was. Long story short again ........ her little cat, a four year old tabby girl named Megs, is coming to live with me in January. When Jenni and her partner first got Megs they lived in town  however they moved and now have quite a commute to and  from work so Megs gets lonely (she loves cuddling up to folks).

And now -  back to blogging at last and sense of humour very much in tact,

here I am

Soon it will be Christmas which I will spend with my dear Mum and Dad, and then the New Year will bring little Megs and lots of fun. Hmmm, it will be quite an adjustment going from 18 year old (age guesstimated) large Mancat Zebby to young Little Megs!

In the meantime here are pics of a beautiful Jacaranda Tree that is near my parents home. It should be flowering like this over Xmas.

From a rainy* Wellington, I send huggles,

Michelle/ Mickle

(*hooray - it will fill up the birdies bath for me!)

So sorry to hear about Zebby Cat. He was a much loved and loving cat, I could tell that from your blog.

You've had quite a time of it but am pleased to hear you're in better shape now.

And good luck with little Megs! As I write this I can hear my cat Scabby (that's her blog name; real name Minette!) whining to come in. Never any peace!

Welcome back to the blogosphere!

Welcome back, Mickle! So sorry to hear about Zebby, and your problems, too! Glad to hear you are feeling happier! Love from me and Dad! xxxx :-D

Dear Dumdad - did you know that calico cats are known for their determined and strongly dominate nature. And Minette is a calico....

So good to "hear" from you and I'm saddened to have read of the hooliganism you've encountered in the local parks. Sending care and love to you all, with especial strokes and head scritches to she who rules - that's Minette of course!

Sorry to hear about your lovely Zeb cat. He was a good age but you will miss him. Happy that Megs will be part of your family soon. Maybe we could get a picture when she gets to you in the New Year?
Sorry to hear about the Crohn's flair up. It is a horrible condition.
I already knew from your email about your other problem and I'm glad that the treatment is over & that you are recovering well.

That Jacaranda tree is so beautiful. No wonder you snapped it.
So pleased that you are back into the Blogging world again.

I guess you've earned and deserve the time off. But I do think you somewhat carried it to extremes. Seriously, Crohn's, losing dear Zebby, AND breast cancer?!

As much as you'll miss Zebby, I'm sure Megs is doing a good job of trying to fill that hole. And I guess you'll join our group of breast cancer survivors. (Go to "SeniorsandFriends.org", > Discussions, and > Bosom Buddies - a good bunch joined by our medical histories.

Were you able to get on the Humira with the BC diagnosis and treatment?

Please keep writing. We've missed you.

Oh I am SO pleased to "see" you again! I must email Irene as we have been speaking about you. I knew dear Zebby cat was unwell so I feared the worst for him. But he was well loved and pampered and had the most glorious life with you. And you did him the greatest kindness in the end.

As for you, I knew you were going through some of these troubles and you have been in my mind. SO pleased to see you back online and to hear of a new feline companion about to enter your life AND your heart! She won't be the same as Zebbycat and nor would you want her to be, but I'm certain HE will be glad you will have company and kitty cuddles again.

Oh my goodness and oh my goodness. Welcome back and let's hope that beautiful tree heralds glorious things to come. Megs will be a new beginning.
Welcome back.
Love from Mum

Dear Mickle, I was so happy to have your email earlier this week! Things have been rather hectic around here - who knew that sending Mark off to high school would mean I'm busier than ever? Or at least, so it feels. I am happy that you will have a new friend to start to fill the hole in your heart which our dear Zebbycat left. Megs' current humans can be certain that she will be a much doted upon kittycat!

I love that tree near your parents' house, and hope it's blooming profusely for your Christmas visit. I'll write you a nice long email soon!

xoxo Marjie

Welcome back Michelle
Like everyone else I'm pleased to see you back here in blogland.
Welcome to Megs, we are all hoping for lots of tales about Meg's Life with you in the Windy City.
Also sad thoughts that you had to say goodbye to Zebby Cat but good thoughts also because of the fabulous life he had with you after being 'hand picked' to be your companion all those years ago
Now don't be a stranger Mickle - say hello when you pop by won't you:)
Take care
Cathy

So sorry to hear about you and Zebby but very pleased to see you back. Our little
sprocket is now 2 and is enormous! He is definitely filling the space left by Chainsaw and Skilly. But not the place they have in our hearts.

It's so lovely to see you back here where we first met and all our loved ones were still with us. It's been a long journey and I've been blessed to have you help me through mine...and our chats and laughter across the miles mean the world to me. Zebby was one lucky fellow to have you as his human.

Hi Michelle, So sad about poor Zebbycat, its always sad to lose a loving pet.
I have had hyperparathyroidixm as well and I know just how he must have felt.
Like you I have been remiss with blogger for over a year now, I think about it and that's all, a tad like writer's block (maybe) :)
Its great that you are now on the mend, take care,
Love from Olive (aka JOY) XOXO

Howdy Mickle, jeez mate you don't do anything by halves do you. First off we send you hugs and sincere sympathy on losing your darling boy Zebby.
Secondly, phew, you are a fighter. Glad your treatment is finished and we wish you well. My sister in law has finished treatment for breast cancer too (and she has MS) and is doing fine now.
Thirdly, a new cat called Megs to love and cuddle will be wonderful. We can't wait to meet her. So glad your sense of humour is in tact. Love your Jacaranda photos. They are blooming around Adelaide too. Take care mate. Glad we've caught up with you. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

I was sitting here this evening in Blogland and suddenly decided that I really must drop you a line again (I was talking about fountain pens which led my mind to desks and your grandfather's(?) desk your Mum and Dad were looking after so you can see where the train of though was going). I decided before writing I'd just check you blog and, lo and behold, here was a post I'd missed. It's so good to see you back and to hear all your news even though it's not all been good.

I wish for you a happy and contented 2014 but above all I wish you the good health to enjoy it.

Hi Michelle, So glad you are still blogging.

Firstly I wish you the best of health in 2014, you have been through a really traumatic time.

Secondly I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Zebby, our pets are so precious to us. I have a cat with a cancerous growth on her back, (Patches), which is inoperable so all I can do is make sure she is as happy as she can be. So at present if she had a little finger she would have me well and truly wrapped round it at the moment.

Take care. Dxx
