Chilean Earthquake

Yes, New Zealand is on Tsunami alert. Potentially affected coastal areas have been evacuated, with people heading to high ground. I'm okay here - my home is about 600 feet above sea level.

My heart goes out to the people of Chile.

Postscript: The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration produced this image of how the Tsunami would roll out from Chile:

and they were pretty much right.

I had no idea that you would be affected in NZ. I doubt a tsunami would rise to 600 feet. I hope not. Tell Zebbie cat to put on his life jacket.
Seriously........ I hope it isn't more than a few inches.

I woke to the news that here in OZ the whole east coast is under threat too. We can only hope that it is a "fizzer"
I saw the devastation it has caused in Chile, makes me realise how fortunate we are to live here.

So far the sea surge has varied from 30cm to 1.5 metres along our coastline and is likely to continue all day.
