Down Under Bush Fire Update

Great news from the Australian state of Victoria - their bush fires are now contained. No - not out yet, has taken the efforts of 500 - yes 500 - firefighters. And has cost at least 29 homes and 60+ out buildings. Out buildings like a dairy farms milking shed - the cows are okay, if uncomfortable with lack of being milked.

Over here bush, scrub and forest fores are getting away so we need our Firefighters here for now. Fire Service Firefighters looking after property and Department of Conservation Firefighters battling the scrub and pine forest ones.

On a very happy note for and from me - our blokes cricket team just beat the aussie blokes team in the first one day match of the Chappell Hadlee series. Won with a 4 hit by our captain off the very last available ball of their innings. Our blokes do so, so leave it until the very last opportunity possible.

For the un-initiated into Cricket - a one day match is fast compared to a test match. Test matches take 5 days. They do stop for lunch and afternoon tea daily - yes, of course this sport originated in England.

Latest fire update - firefighters still very busy here at 2.00am. Is so very dry in the areas the fires are at.

Wow, sorry to hear of the terrible fire situation in Australia...I know these fires are terribly hard to contain especially in the dry, hot that's happening now. When I lived in the southwestern desert, we kept the grasses away from the house so as to protect our homes. Sending hope and positive thoughts to those brave souls who go into battle with massive flames.

Now, I don't know nothin' about Cricket, so thanks for explaining a little to a non NZer! Glad your team made a win! Here, we just had the Super Bowl in Football and the team I was routing for, the Arizona Cardinals (from the state I lived in for 40 years!) lost by 4 points. It was an EXCITING game and we were sooooo close!! I've never had a state that I lived in go to the Super Bowl, so I actually had someone I really wanted to win! Ahhh well.

Take care. Smile large. Don't wake Zebbycat.

So glad to hear that the fires are contained...I am terrified of brush and forest fires...since I live on the edge of a forest, I keep my eyes open for smoke! Great post

Fires are always so scary. I am glad to hear that things are getting better.
Thank you for explaining a bit about kricket. I know nothing. Of course the same could be said fro my knowledge of american sports as well. The only one that I really enjoy watching is ice hockey. But still I have to ask all kinds of questions when I watch.

Blessings to you today.
